Fallece Scott Columbus (ex-Manowar)

En el día de ayer falleció, por causas no comunicadas, el que fuera batería de Manowar Scott Columbus a los 54 años de edad. Su antiguo compañero Ross "The Boss" Friedman ha sido el primero en confirmar la triste noticia a través de las redes sociales. Los miembros de Manowar también enviaron un emotivo mensaje recordando al que fue su compañero durante muchos años. Y es que fue en el año 1983 cuando Scott entró a formar parte de la legendaria banda neoyorkina sustituyendo a Donnie Hanzik. Scott trabajaba de dependiente en una tienda y fue recomendado al líder y bajista de Manowar Joey DeMaio, que lo eligió como nuevo miembro. En esta primera etapa, Manowar grabó cinco discos: "Into Glory Ride" (1983), "Hail To England" (1984), "Sign Of The Hammer" (1984), "Fighting The World" (1987) y "Kings Of Metal" (1988) que encumbraron a la banda como los reyes del heavy metal épico, con fans acérrimos por todo el planeta. En 1990, Scott abandonaba la banda por enfermedad de su hijo, siendo suplido por Kenny Earl "Rhino" Edwards. Su marcha finalmente se convirtió en un paréntesis, volviendo a la formación en 1994 y manteniéndose hasta 2008. De esta época son los discos de estudio "Louder Than Hell" (1996), "Warriors Of The World" (2002) y "Gods Of War" (2007), amén de todos los discos y DVD en directo que publicaron.

Las razones de la marcha en 2008, inicialmente calificada de temporal, fueron las diferencias musicales con el propio DeMaio. Fue en verano de 2010, cuando el propio Scott confirmó que su marcha era definitva y que no volvería a Manowar. Primero Rhino y actualmente Donnie Hanzik, volvieron a tomar la batería de los guerreros americanos.

Tras una gira con la banda de Ross The Boss, Scott se encontraba inmerso en un nuevo proyecto llamado Instrumental con el guitarra Patrick MacDougall, del que poco se sabía hasta ahora.

Siempre quedará su imagen de auténtico motero, con sus tatuajes y bigotes y su rostro siempre serio y taciturno.
Actualmente, Manowar, con Eric Adams, Joey DeMaio, Karl Logan y Donnie Hanzik se encuentran de gira, que a buen seguro servirá de multitudinario homenaje al músico desaparecido.
